Obituary for Hazel Ames Feiker

Hazel Ames  Feiker
-Mrs. Hazel Ames Feiker, 98, of Niskayuna, NY died on Monday, 5/23/16 after a brief illness
at Kingsway Arms Nursing Center. She was born on November 7, 1917 in Northampton, MA, the daughter of Harold and Effie C. Ames. After graduating from Northampton High School, she graduated from Smith College in 1939 and from Smith College School of Social Work with a Master’s degree in 1941. She married George Edward Feiker, Jr of Northampton, MA on June 30, 1940.

Initially, Mrs. Feiker and her husband Ed lived in Albany, NY and then they moved to Niskayuna in 1955.
Her husband worked in Research and Development at General Electric in Schenectady, NY.
Mrs. Feiker worked at Protestant Family Welfare Agency in Albany, NY (1941-1945), for Planned
Parenthood in Schenectady, NY, and for Sunnyview Rehabilitation Hospital as an in-patient social
worker for children who were hospitalized for extended stays and their families (1969-1980).
She was an active volunteer for many social agencies, including AAUW, Planned Parenthood, local
food pantries and Sunnyview Hospital Gift Shop. She was a member of the First Reformed Church
in Schenectady, NY.

Mrs. Hazel Feiker was pre-deceased by her husband Ed, by her sisters: Mary Ames Flynt and
Shirley Ames St. John, by her brothers: Frederick Ames, William C. Ames, and her sister-in-law
June Feiker Sherman.

Mrs. Feiker is survived by her children: Carol F. Wetherbee (New York, NY.), George F. Feiker and his
wife Kim (Alburg, VT), and Nancy F. Parry and her husband William (Rexford, NY). She is survived by
five (5) grandchildren: Richard E. Wetherbee and his wife Renee Ducker (St. Louis, MO),
Christian F. Wetherbee and his wife Christina (Morristown, NJ), Amy F. Hollenbeck and her husband Brian (Evanston, IL), Elizabeth F. Harrison and her husband Stephen (Reading, MA), and Erica
Szpylczyn, daughter of Nancy Parry (Tucson, AZ). She is survived by seven (7) great-grandchildren:
Grant and Elias Wetherbee (St. Louis, MO), Anna and Ian Wetherbee (Morristown, NJ), Sophie
and Julia Hollenbeck (Evanston, IL), and Wyatt Harrison (Reading, MA).

A private burial and reception is planned. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Sunnyview
Rehabilitation Hospital, 1270 Belmont, Ave. Schenectady, NY 12308 or to First Reformed Church,
8 North Church Street, Schenectady, NY. 12305.
