After he retired, he went to work part time for Charles E. Hock doing what he enjoyed most being an auditor. Herb worked for a few years then decided to retire fully.

Through Herbs life his passion was Boy Scouts and he devoted himself to his passion working his was through to Eagle Scout. He was a huge advocate to get other young people involved and his mentoring of others brought them through the ranks as well. Herb participated in many scouting events at Boyhaven and eventually a trail was named after him. There is also patch recognizing this milestone.
