Evelyn Desell Talerico passed away on December 14, 2017 in Roanoke, Virginia. Mrs. Talerico was the daughter of the late Arthur C. and Sadie Barcher Desell. Her beloved husband, Donald Lee Talerico, died in 1975. She is also preceded in death by two brothers, Arthur L. Desell and Elmer L. Desell, and a sister, Frances Shepard. Mrs. Talerico is survived by two loving daughters, Judith Hoven and her wonderful husband, John, of Roanoke, Virginia, and Evelyn Dratwa of Painesville, Ohio, a precious grandson, Robert Hoven of Bent Mountain, Virginia, and his wife, Ashley, and three precious great-grandchildren, Abigale, Ethan and Eli Hoven. She is also survived by her sister, Joyce Walkowicz of Scotia, New York, several nieces and nephews and many dear friends, including one special dear childhood friend, Nina Driscoll, of Rexford, NewYork.
Mrs. Talerico was born in Lawrence, Massachusetts, but lived most of her life in Schenectady and Scotia, New York, before moving to Roanoke in 1994. She graduated from Nott Terrace High School, worked for General Electric for several years and Glenridge Hospital. She was employed by the Schenectady County Finance Department until her retirement in 1991.
She was a lifelong member of St. John the Baptist Church in Schenectady until its closing, becoming a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Scotia at that time.
A calling hour to receive family and friends will be at 9:00am on Thursday, January 4, 2018 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Scotia, New York. A Christian Burial Mass will be held at 10:00am in the church with burial in the family plot at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Troy Rd., Niskayuna, New York. Memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children.
